As was promised we put those fantastic pictures that the parents created with their children on the classroom display. The children enjoyed singing the story while looking at those pictures they made with their mums. See more about the whole Bear Hunt project and the photo of the display here.

Thank you to all the parents and grandparents for coming in to school on our final day of Book Week. It was lovely to see the children dressed up as book characters and congratulations to our muscular Super Man, Luis for winning in the fancy dress competition! I hope you enjoyed your time doing some art and craft activities related to our class story with your child. It was certainly a very special day for the children! All your beautiful work will be displayed in the classroom so come by to have a look after the holiday! See the photos here. Today the children had a chance to role play the story and do a little bit of singing, chanting and acting. 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' is a wonderful story that creates opportunities for learning in many different areas and having lots of fun! We are hoping the parents will enjoy our little show tomorrow during the open morning. Mr Thompson came to the Nursery class with three story books to read. The children listened to the stories called 'I Want My Hat Back' by Jon Klassen, 'There Was an Old Woman Who Swallowed a Spider' by Pam Adams and 'The Most Obedient Dog in the World' by Anita Jeram. All the books had some humour in them and were thoroughly enjoyed by the children. The last reading session with the secondary students went briliantly well. The Nursery children were accustomed to the newcomers in the classroom by now and really enjoyed their shared reading time. On Wednesday the children listened to two stories read by Ms. Maslene, Year 5 teacher. One of the stories was called The Paper Bag Princess by R. Munsch and the other one - Story of the Little Mole by Peter Holzwarth. Another exciting moment of story time in Nursery class! More photos will be uploaded later. Today we read the 'We're Going on a Beah Hunt' story again and concentrated on the story map. What did the family walk through before they found the bear? The children recalled the river, grass, mud, snowstorm, forest and the cave. We tried to say together the sounds from the book for each of the scenes. The children also continued with their door book cover decoration. They coloured in and drew some pretty flowers in oil pastels. On Tuesday during the reading session after lunch Ms. Pierce, English P teacher, came to the Nursery class with a book. The children enjoyed the story called 'Pirate Pete and the Monster' by Susan Akass. It was great to have a new teacher reading a story, students listened very carefully. On Tuesday some more secondary students joined our class for reading. It was Year 13 and they only had boys in their class, really tall ones too. The Nursery children had to tilt their heads back to be be able to see those tall students. Some children again were a little intimidated at the beginning but it all turned out fine in the end. It is actually quite good fun, to read together with the older students! |
